ARE YOU UP FOR THE CHALLENGE?

DO YOU WANT ADVENTURE?

COME ONBOARD AND SAIL GLASGOW`S "RACING"  TALL SHIP

Clyde ChallengerCLYDE SAIL TRAINING TRUST, as a recognised Scottish charity, is a partnership between private, public, community and voluntary sectors working to secure long term sail training opportunities for those suffering the worst effects of deprivation and social exclusion. The Trust’s aim is to make education through sail training readily attainable rather than being a “one-off personal development experience”. Established in 1999 through the donation of “East End Endeavour”, a Rival 41 yacht by Glasgow City Council, the Trust operates throughout Scotland with deployments throughout the United Kingdom. In the last 6years over 1400 young people from 39 different youth organisations & schools undertook voyages including a Round Britain cruise. In 2005 "East End Endeavour" sailed over 6,000 miles and took our young crews to harbours from Stornoway to Dieppe.  In January 2006 Clyde Sail Training Trust acquired the Clipper 60 ocean racing yacht "Glasgow Clipper".  Renamed "Clyde Challenger" by the Lord Provost of Glasgow, Liz Cameron, the yacht has since won the Aurora Trophy, being first across the Finish Line on the Glasgow - Belfast Small Ships Race.

A short voyage onboard Clyde Challenger enables young people to face challenges that will enhance their self-confidence and self-esteem. Team building in the close confines of an ocean going sail training yacht makes a lasting impression and young crews take their new-found social skills back into the community. To have faced challenges together forms a strong and lasting bond amongst our young crews.

Voyages may be booked by groups of up to 11 young people with an accompanying adult. Groups are invited to become fully involved in the planning and preparation of their voyage. This includes planning the itinerary, liasing with Harbour & Marina authorities, menu planning and budgeting, logistic arrangements and pre-voyage training conducted by a Trust Afterguard volunteer from the groups’ community.

Voyages can be a “one day Taster” for those groups who want a relaxing days cruising from their home port; a 2 day sail training voyage with a visit to a local coastal community and a full 5 or 7 day adventurous sail training voyage. Voyages are tailored to the needs of individual groups and can be arranged to meet schools curriculum needs.

Voyages are funded by the generosity of public donations.  If you would like to sponsor a young persons voyage, please use the Contact Page to enquire how you can help.
